Scrap Tag

This Tutorial was written by Kris on May 23, 2007. It is my own creation and any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.

You may copy my tutorials to word and save them for future use or copy them. Please do NOT take and claim this tutorial as your own. Any scrap kit you use, you MUST read the artists TOU before using their kit. If they want recognition you will need to do as the TOU says. I.E if they have a copyright and a website, you must include that if they would like. Never change anything about the scrap kits you have. If you use the scrap kits, always duplicate each page and element before starting your project.

Lets Begin!!

NOTE: Not all scrap kits are the same. This is just a general run through on how to put a scrap kit together. But you can place things however you’d like.

1.
Ok, first off we need to open our scrap kit elements in PSP, there are usually several pages and elements, so choose up to 4 pages you like out of the kit and a few elements you like. Duplicate each page and element (shift d). Most scrap kit pages and elements are awfully big. So lets resize them first, go image/resize (shift s). I’m the resize at 10-30 % depending on the size of your pages and elements you may need to change it. Remember, not all scrap kits need resizing before starting. But most scrap kits are made to be able to print out on a sheet of 8 x 11 inch piece of paper.

2.
Once you’ve got all your pages and elements resized open a new canvas 500 x 500 pixel, raster background, transparent.

3.
Flood fill your canvas with white or color of your choice (this is optional).

4.
First Page, Copy (ctrl c) and go to your canvas and paste it as a new layer (ctrl l). You may need to resize your pages a bit more in order to fit in your canvas, if so do so now.

Go Image/Free Rotate:
Left, Free checked 25 %, all layers unchecked, rotate single layer around canvas center unchecked, click ok.

Add drop shadow, go Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow:
Settings: Vertical and Horizontal: 2, Opacity: 50, Blur: 5, Color: Black

Second page, Copy (ctrl c) and go to your canvas and paste it as a new layer (ctrl l). Again, you may need to resize your pages a bit more in order to fit in your canvas, if so do so now.

Go Image/Free Rotate:
Right, Free checked 15 %, all layers unchecked, rotate single layer around canvas center unchecked, click ok.

Repeat drop shadow.

Third page, Copy (ctrl c) and go to your canvas and paste it as a new layer (ctrl l). Again, you may need to resize your pages a bit more in order to fit in your canvas, if so do so now.

Go Image/Free Rotate:
Left, Free checked 15 %, all layers unchecked, rotate single layer around canvas center unchecked, click ok.

Repeat drop shadow.

5.
Now for the elements, select your first element. I picked Flower elements from the scrap kit I’m using.
First flower, Copy (ctrl c) and go back to your canvas, paste as new layer (ctrl l). This may need to be resized a little more just like the pages, if so, do so now.

Use your mover tool to move it somewhere on your canvas that looks nice. Add the same drop shadow as above.

Second flower, Copy (ctrl c) and go back to your canvas, paste as a new layer (ctrl l). Again, this may need to be resized a little more, if so, do so now.

User your mover tool again and move it somewhere else on the canvas that looks nice. Add the same drop shadow as above.

6.
Ok, now your tags, Copy (ctrl c) and paste as a new layer (ctrl l) to your canvas. Now I’ve moved mine under my last flower layer. But you can do what you’d like with it.

Add the same drop shadow as above.

7.
Now I added a text right here over my tag.
Font of choice, Size: 14 (depending on size of text), Create as: Vector
Choose a color of choice for the background/fill and put your foreground/stroke to null.
Type out your text, I put Kris’ Scrap Pages, but you can put what you’d like
Use the little nodes to make the text bigger and move it so it fits in the middle of your tag.
Layers/Convert to Raster
Add a drop shadow to your text, here’s my settings.
Vertical & Horizontal: 0, Opacity: 30, Blur: 3, Color: Black
Layers/Merge/Merge Down

8.
Ok, now another tag, (ctrl c) and paste as a new layer (ctrl l) to your canvas. Now I drug mine to where it was under my first flower layer. But again, you can do what you’d like with it.

Add the same drop shadow as in step 4.

Now add your name or another text over this tag.
Same as above, font of choice, size of choice, create as vector, color of choice.
Type out your text, I put my name on this tag.
Layers/Convert to Raster
Add the same drop shadow used for your first text.

If you’re happy with everything, Layers/Merge/Merge Visible
Add a tube if you’d like and add a drop shadow to it also.
Add a border if you’d like.

Add any copyright info you may have and your watermark

Resize if you’d like, Save as a jpeg.

And you’re done!

Thanks for trying my tut! I hope you’ve enjoyed doing my tut and that it was understandable enough. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Please don’t forget to share your results!
